I...I completely understand your fears and concerns. I remember when Tyler was about one year old and we were at the geneticist. I finally got up the nerve to ask what the difference between mentally retarded and and developmentally delayed. The doctor explained that with mental retardation it is a life long ailment that cannot be overcome. However, he explained that Tyler has a developmental delay, which means he may hit his goals much later than his peers, but he will always hit them. I went home feeling so much better.
